03-11-2011

We've had our first fatality.  One of the striped chicks was dead this morning.  I have no idea why it died.  I think it was either one of the Dutch Bantams or the Brown Leghorns (or the Silver Phoenix).  All of the rest of the chicks seem ok.

I changed to pine bedding today.  You aren't supposed to put bedding like that down for the first few days because they'll eat it instead of food.  If you leave them on newspaper they'll get splayed legs.  The new bedding will be cleaner and easier to change.  I had to remove them all from the brooder to change everything over.  They continue to get larger and grow more real feathers.
